After a great trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore, I’m now happily back in San Francisco, ready to help students learn English!

Specifically, I want to help immigrants (and international students) learn English in San Francisco.   I have thought about this a lot, and I believe I have created a very powerful system to use in SF.

Here’s what I’m planning:

1.  English Learning Seminars

Once very 1-2 months, I’ll do a one day Effortless English Breakthrough Seminar.  This seminar will be similar to the one I did in Bangkok this year.   This will be the first step for all students-  to enroll in my San Francisco class, you must first complete a seminar.

This is important, because in the seminar you learn about the Effortless English system.  You learn how to use it and what you must do in my class and outside my class to succeed.

2. Learn English Night Classes In San Francisco

After graduating from a seminar, you can join my once a week night class.  This will be a 1.5-2 hour class, one night a week.   Why just once a week?  Because Effortless English is a deep learning system and we will be following the same system that our online members follow.  In other words, you will study only one lesson set per week.

All students will pay a $97 dollar “materials fee”–  and will receive my Effortless English Club lessons.  Each student will also enroll in the Master Member Video Site ($19 a month).  These will be your homework!   Finally, each live class will be $20, payable from class to class.

I’ll first teach you the weekly lesson live– which is a very powerful way to learn it!   And each class will be recorded.  After the class, you’ll listen to the same lesson set on mp3 and you’ll watch the video of the class on the Master Member Video site.   This easy homework will guarantee very deep learning and fast speaking improvement.

So if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, check this blog for updates about upcoming English learning seminars!

To Summarize:

Learn English in San Francisco

Step 1:  Attend an English Learning Breakthrough Seminar

Step 2:  Pay Materials Fee:  Effortless English Club Lessons and Master Member Video membership

Step 3:  Attend class (in San Francisco) once a week

Step 4:  Listen to lesson set audio, and watch video, every day for one week

Step 5:  Repeat 3 & 4 every week

A final note:  My schedule is very busy and it changes a lot.  Since I travel a lot, there will be weeks, and months, when there will be no class.  This is why the class will be payable from week to week..  you only pay on the day that you come to class :)    Likewise, if you need to miss a class, it’s OK.   Just do the homework for that week and you’ll still be OK (and you won’t need to pay for the class you miss :)

When learning anything, especially when learning English, it’s important to have a community- a club of other enthusiastic learners.   This is why people continue to go to schools, even though they know the schools’ methods are terrible.  People want a community.  They want to join with other people.  They want the increased motivation, support, and inspiration that a community provides.

Which is why our website is called the Effortless English CLUB.   Effortless English is more than great lessons– it’s also a community of very positive and enthusiastic learners.  In fact, we are very careful about membership in our community.  We only accept the very best– English learners who are very positive and enthusiastic.

We monitor our club quite closely, and we have zero tolerance for the negative, insulting, or childish behavior usually seen in internet communities.   On most internet forums, for example, you find a massive amount of insults and arguing.  We don’t allow that.  Such members are quickly and decisively eliminated from the club, and are never allowed to re-join.

Yes, this is a tough policy.  But it is necessary.   It can be difficult to create a great international learning club online.  And I admit- I am not interested in accepting and tolerating everyone.  My goal is to create an international English learning club of only the very best learners.  I want the most enthusiastic, the most supportive, the most friendly, the most energetic members in the world…  and that, in fact, is exactly what we have.

The members of the Effortless English Club are absolutely amazing.  The level of enthusiasm and friendliness is tremendous.   New members are always very happy to discover such a fun and supportive learning club.  We have many super members who will answer your questions, give you learning advice, encourage you when you feel tired, and inspire you with their success.

Soon, we will be making that community even stronger–  when we launch our new Master Member Video site.  The video site is designed as a club for the Best of the Best…   a monthly membership site where the top 1% of our members will meet… and will get weekly new videos from me.  All videos will have text, so you can understand everything… but more importantly, the videos will focus on four powerful topics:  Advanced Learning Strategies & Lessons, The Psychology of Success,  Personal Financial Success, and Daily Life in (North) America.

The Master Member Video site will focus not only on English, but on Learning and Success in general.  This is a place where our top 1% will meet and learn together–   a powerful club and community of the Best of the Best.

We are very close to launching the Beta Test version of the site…  we’re planning to start testing next week with a few of our “All-Star” members.   Testing will then take about 6-8 weeks…  and then we will offer membership to our email subscribers only.   Membership in the Master Member Video site will only be available to our email subscribers.

So look in your email Inbox for updates about our newest, most exclusive English learning club.

And, as always, enjoy your English learning!

Most of us know, intuitively, that the best way is to learn English naturally.  Yet, so many students still choose to use unnatural, ineffective, old methods of learning…  and they continue to be frustrated.  Why is it so scary for some students to switch to natural, effortless methods?

The answer, of course, is our education system.  All over the world, we have an industrial, factory style of education.  Students sit passively– memorizing information through boring rote.  They listen passively to lectures and take notes.

Anyone who understands the brain and how we learn knows that this factory education system is extremely ineffective.   Learning in school is totally unnatural.

So why are we taught this way?  Because the central role of school is not to feed our minds, but to teach us to follow the rules and train us to be obedient employees.  That’s the sad truth.  In fact, in some countries, some education officials in the government openly admit that they don’t care if students develop English fluency.  In Japan, for example, many officials say that the purpose of English class is not to learn English, but to train students to be more disciplined.

In other words, these officials believe that students become stronger by forcing themselves to memorize useless and boring information.  It’s no surprise that few Japanese students become fluent English speakers- unless they learn English outside of the school system.

Of course, Japan is not the only country with such a system. Very few school systems teach English naturally.

What’s even sadder is that private English conversation schools are strongly influenced by the government school systems.  And so, in these private conversation schools they still use textbooks, drills, and grammar memorization as their primary methods.

To learn English naturally, you must leave the education system completely and become an indepedent learner. You must choose a listen-first method and focus most of your energy and time on listening to understandable English.   Listening is the foundation of natural English learning.  It is the core skill and you must master it before you focus on anything else.

This does not mean, however, that you must be alone.  While focusing on listening, you can still join an English learning community and communicate with other members.   In our Effortless English Club, for example, members communicate on our Forums and by talking to each other on Skype.   They focus their study time on listening, but they still enjoy speaking and writing to each other socially.

This natural learning community is fun, friendly, and energetic– the opposite of most school classrooms.  There is no pressure–  just friendly encouragement and support.

This is the natural way to learn–  easily, effortlessly, socially, and independently.   This is the way children naturally learn, before they enter school.   This is the way our brains are naturally designed for fastest and best learning.

So, there is nothing to fear.   It is time.   Leave the old education system.  Let it go.  Let go of the pressure, the stress, the fear and the boredom.

Become a natural, independent learner and learn English faster, more easily, and more enjoyably.

Our learn English mp3 lessons work on both Windows computers and Macs.

However, I find that Macs are generally much easier to use.  When you download our mp3 English speaking lessons on a Mac, everything is easy and automatic.  The Mac automatically puts the mp3 lessons into iTunes where they are easy to organize and listen to.  The text is also easy to use… using either Adobe Reader or the Mac’s Textedit program.

So whenever someone asks me to recommend a computer, I always recommend Apple.  I have two Macs– a desktop iMac and a laptop Macbook Air.   I love them.  Everything is so easy and effortless to use.  In fact, I think Apple should use the slogan “Effortless Computing”– because their computers are so easy to use.

Another great thing about Macs is that they can also run Windows programs.  Recently I installed Microsoft Windows because I needed to run a program that only worked on Windows.   So I got the Parallel program, then installed Windows, then installed the program I wanted to use.  Now I can use any Windows program, plus all of Apple’s fantastic applications.

For learning English, I highly recommend using Macs, as well as iPods and iPhones…   which make English learning easy, portable, and fun.

But if you are already stuck with a Windows computer, don’t worry–  our lessons work perfectly fine on those too :)
