Hi, I want to comment that this is also happen in most countries all over the world and I was one of the students who was writing comments and why did we use “is”, why we need to add “the” and not “a”, then get the exam hopefully to pass it. Effortless English is so great, help a lot to start my first step to pronounce English and improve it in the right way. Thanks AJ for every thing you do, We appreciate this a lot.

  2. Pedro Says:

Hi AJ, I liked this new videos.

Good lesson that you taught in it.

I remember part of this story from that “English trauma” report.

Hey, did you meet Godzilla while you lived in Japan?

    I like your Japanese speaking.
I’d like to know what Tomoe thinks of it…

    Best regards.

  3. Ghaang, Young Gu Says:

I am myself an English teacher in Korea. After I listened to AJ’s story, Something Wrong In Japan, at first I felt terribly ashamed of myself as an English teacher, of how I have been destroying my eager, woderful students with all my tests, red X marks on their wrong answers on their tests, and my constant criticism about their grammar mistakes, which I myself have been worrying about making all my life. Looking back, I realize I am also one of the victims of the school system. I cannot measure how much the deep-rooted fear of making mistakes in English speaking contributed me being reduced into a timid coward not only in speaking English but also in my general personality. Your story was a rude awakening for me. I hope I can be born again both as an English teacher and as a human being, which will be totally owing to AJ’s story. I thank for the fate that led me to Effortless English.

I can’t believe that this is what native speaker like you also think in mind. Thank you for giving us the new method of learning English. It would be amazing if your (and my) opinion can impact our world in some day. It would be awasome.

  103. Shawkat Anwar Shamsi Says:

    Dear Mr.Hog,

You’re the best English Teacher – I have ever found in my life.

Really I was frustrated in my school years of learning English due to bad method and still those schools are using the same method to teach English – crushing and destroying the natural learning ability of the new students.

Should we not start a campaign against it and force them (Schools Authority ) to accept new method of teaching English.Because I think they should not have this right to spoil time, money and efforts of thousands of students for endless period.Should they ?

What we can do now !
Yes,we can do the following :

1.) E-mail or even write letters to the respective education ministry of a country to make them aware of new method of teaching English, better to say “Aj Hogs method”

2.) Take the help of national dailies of a country to make the the students ,teachers, guardians aware of the ” Aj
Hogs Teaching Methods with 7 Rules”.Because Internet is not accessible to all yet.

3.)Tv and radio advertisements/talk-shows are also necessary to make everyone understand that methods of teaching English in traditional Schools must be changed.

4.) Text materials/Audio/Video/CD/DVDs of new methods of teaching English should be supplied free or at a minimal cost to the schools authority – who are really interested to change their methods of teaching.

5.) To accomplish the above tasks an international organization should be built under the leadership of Mr.Aj Hog or any other man like him and this organization would select a country representative/group to run all these activities in the representatives own country.

I would like to get from the reader of this comment many more new ideas and process of spreading and installing “Aj Hogs English Teaching Method” in traditional schools of all over the world.

    Best regards
    ShawkattAnwar Shasmi
    Bangladesh.

    Dear AJ,
OMG I was myself a poor vicitim of the same kind of English learning system. That’s why I can’t speak fluently even after 26 years of constant learning. What a waste of time! I badly want to learn from you but I haven’t got a credit card that I can pay you for your precious lessons.I’m now in an English speaking country. To be honest, I don’t like move with the people here because of the fear that I may make mistakes. I really don’t express myself that natives may think that I’m being rude. I can’t help it. I am so scared to speak, express and communicate. I am getting disappointed with everything since I’m hopeless at communication which is the most important thing when living in a foreign country.

By the way, I admire all your efforts for a better way of teaching the language. Keep it up! You are a great teacher.

  136. salwa Says:

Your story is not new. I was one of those students, but my teacher used to speake Arabic all the time. We still have the same example nowadwys everywhere. That is because English lesson means to pass the exam and get full marks and nothing more. Most students at schools study English as a subject not as a language.Unfortunatelly some teachers make the students write each new word 50 times as a homework. Otherwise they would be punished severely. However some parnts complain if the teacher speakes English while explaining the lesson. That is because they want the teacher to explain every word in Arabic. Another teacher writes all the lesson on the board and asks the students to copy evey word, when the students complain, the headmaster says that they are naughty students and the teacher is very active and spend all the time writing on the board without having a rest.

Wow!!! I was always wondering why after several years of studying English still we can’t speak fluently. I always asked this question from my teachers that what is wrong with our English education methods that we can’t improve it and we can’t be fluent in it? but i got no answer so far. Now i understand it. We studied exactly in the situation you have described :(
Thank you for making us aware of it and thank you so much for incredible secrets to learn English ;)

    Hi A.J.
When I listened this podcast I remember something about this. I have a girl friend and she is an English teacher in Turkey. Actually I have two friends of Englidh teacher. Anyway, Few years ago I wanted her to teach me to speak English. And she said ‘I can’t sorry, I can help you with grammer only, because we learned only ”how to teach English Grammer to students”in university, I can’t understand every thing in English, I can’t understand all the movies in English, but if you need you can write something in English and I’ll check them.’
I asked so many people in my country about ‘I want to speak in English’, They all said the same thing; ‘you are done. you can’t learn more in here. you must go abroad, maybe you can be succesfull or not, who knows? But It is a little expencive, isn’t it?
Then I give up. Untill I met you. Thanks a lot!
Now I’m beleive you, beleive that It can be, why not? I want to teach English to my son like a native speaker, before he meet his English teacher in school, I don’t want to be like me

    hi
    passage
Crime has its own cycles,a magazine reported some years ago.police records that were studied for five years from over 2,400 cities and towns show a surprising link between changes in the season and crime pattern.the pattern of crime has varied very little over a long period of years. Murder reaches its high during July and August, as do rape and other violent attks.
Murder , moreover,is more than seasonal:it is a weekend crime. it is also a nighttime crime:62 percent of murder are committed between 6 p.m and 6 a.m.

    Question:
    1-According to the passage…….
1)violent actions have on specific pattern
2)police studied more than 2400 murder cases to find out the pattern
3)violent attacks are the most in August and July
    4)crime patterns change every year
    2-which one is NOT true?
1)Murdesr and rape are weekend crime
    2)most murders happen between 6 p.m and 6 a.m
3)mostly in July and August violent attacks, murder, and rape happen
4)there is a surprising connection between time of the year and type of the crime
3-According to this passage, which time of the year is the most dangerous?
    1)July and August
    2)weekend
    3)the weekend of July and August, between 6 p.m and 6 a.m
    4)there’s no dangerous time

    THE END.

    Dear A.J.

I had so much fun when I listened your story in Japan. You are the best English teacher in the world. I am a Chinese. I feel that there is something wrong in China, too. When I was a student there, I learned many and many grammer roles as well as vacabularies. However, at the begining when I came to the U.S, I could not understand most Englsih people talked to me, and I also could not be understood when I talked in Englsih. I felt that I was smart when I talked with people who spoke Chinese, but I felt I was retarted when I talked in English because I had to think and put each English word in a correct order in mind first before the sentences coming out of my mouth which made my talking become so slow, like a stroke patient who had brain damage. Thank you for creating this wonderful way for our foreign people.
